Hiroshima-Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Exhibition in Hungary and Montenegro
Hiroshima City and Nagasaki City have been jointly holding Hiroshima-Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Exhibitions overseas, to communicate the reality of the damage from the bombing and build up global opinion for the abolition of nuclear weapons.
In 2017, the exhibition was held in Hungary's capital Budapest and Kotor City in Montenegro. It was the first time to hold the Exhibition in both countries.
In both exhibitions, there were twenty actual artifacts from the bombing on display, including articles of the victims such as the burnt drink bottle of a junior high school student who died in the bombing while working as a mobilized student, and the paper cranes made by Sadako Sasaki. There were also around thirty panels explaining the reality of the bombing in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The exhibition was held at the Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum in Budapest City from June 1 to October 31, 2017, and around 90,000 residents and tourists visited.
At the exhibition's opening ceremony on June 1, there were speeches given by Mr. Kenji Shiga, the Director of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, and others. These were followed by an A-bomb testimony by Ms. Yoshiko Kajimoto, an atomic bomb survivors, who effectively used maps and pictures in her talk. Everyone listened intently to Ms. Kajimoto's talk, with some people becoming tearful.
The exhibition was held at the Kotor Culture Center in Kotor City from November 15-30, 2017. Approximately 1,600 people, mainly young people, visited the exhibition.
Some of the visitors left comments, such as "Looking at the articles left behind reminded me of the horror of the atomic bomb," showing that the visitors were given the opportunity to think deeply about the abolition of nuclear weapons and the preciousness of peace.
On November 15, Mr. Sadao Yamamoto gave an A-bomb testimony at a high school in Kotor City, and more than two hundred high school students listened to his talk.
After the end of the atomic bombing exhibition in Kotor City, the exhibits were brought back to the Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum in Budapest City, and will be on display until August 31, 2018.
