Precious Experiences through Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundationfs Internship Programs

Universities and students, both domestic and overseas, have always strongly requested that we accommodate interns (trainees) for certain periods of time, and such requests have continued to increase in recent years. This demonstrates the growing concern about peace among younger generations across the world. It also shows that they are hoping to learn about peace in Hiroshima and that they wish to contribute to peace.

@In 2008 this Foundation initiated the gPeace Culture Foundation Internship Programh and started to accept small numbers of applicants. This Foundation acted in the belief that providing students and young people in Japan and overseas, who will carry the future upon their shoulders, with experiences and opportunities to deepen their understanding of Hiroshima and the atomic bombing, through actual peace promoting activities or exchange with various cultures, will contribute greatly to the further expansion or new establishment of borderless peace-promoting networks.

@Under this internship program, participants are given ample opportunities to feel and empathize with gthe spirit of Hiroshimah. They do this through their work at the secretariat of Mayors for Peace, which is sponsored by Hiroshima and Nagasaki, support work for the organization of the International Peace Symposium, participation in childrenfs peace programs during summer vacation, development of peace-related documents, communication and coordination with overseas organizations, assistance to foreign visitors, translation work, research, and so on.

@This year, from July through August, four young Americans, male and female, participated in this internship program and gained various experiences. We hope that these participants will be even more proactive in promoting peace after returning to their own countries.
