Projects for the Fiscal Year 2011

       1. International Exchange and Cooperation Projects

       (1) Financial Aid for International Exchange/Cooperation Projects (Budget: 887,000yen)
         In order to promote international exchange and cooperation at the citizen level, aid is provided to
          groups based in Hiroshima city that independently plan and carry out such activities in Hiroshima
          city or abroad.

   (2) Operation of International Exchange Network Hiroshima
(Budget: 1,070,000yen

  While working to deepen cooperation among groups registered to the International Exchange
     
Network Hiroshima, we are also looking to create environment that allows the registered groups to
  easily engagein activities. To facilitate international exchange activities at the citizen level, we
         register volunteers for home-stays and act as a go-between when it comes to requests from nonprofits.


     Details: Information service for groups registered at International Exchange Network Hiroshima;
        management of the seminar rooms and volunteer activities corner that the Network
member groupuse for their activity space; Home-stay go-between, etc.

(3) Day of International Exchange and Cooperation
(Budget: 3,014,000 yen
        Groups engaged in international exchange come together to create workshops and displays with a
     learning theme, which help raise interest in international exchange activities amongst citizens,
            while also strengthening ties among groups that are invested in international exchange and cooperation.


        Date: Sunday, November 20, 2011
               Place: Hiroshima Kokusai Kaigijo (International Conference Center Hiroshima), Green space in
                  front of the ICCH, Peace Memorial Park

             Expected Number of Visitors: 6,250 people

            (4) Pe-A-Ce-Lo-Ve (Budget: 100,000 yen)
            At Pe-A-Ce-Lo-Ve, foreign residents and Japanese citizens have cultural exchange over foreign
            foods and through folk performing arts.

         Date: October 29 & 30, 2011
              Place: Chuo Koen (Chuo Park)
              Expected Number of Visitors: 35,000 people

       (5) Operations for the Sister and Friendship Cities Days and Hiroshima Messengers
                                                                (Budget: 5,699.000yen)

   The City hosts Sister and Friendship City Day events for each of its six overseas sister and
    friendship cities. These events, which encourage participation by city citizens, help to further
         expand citizen-level exchange and raise their degree of international consciousness. In addition, we
    recruit Hiroshima Messengers to assist with the planning and development of the Sister and
 Friendship Citie events, an also to act as guest teachers for international understanding.

              (b) Hiroshima Messengers (Recruitment)
                     Recruitment Period: October 2011
                     Who: One male and one female for each city. 12 people in total
                     Term: January – December 2012

        (6) Hiroshima Joho a-net (Hiroshima Citizens’ Activities General Information System)                  Administrative Operation (Budget: 242,000yen)
          The activities of the International Exchange Network Hiroshima registered groups will widely
                 introduce to the citizens of Hiroshima through the Hiroshima Joho a-net, citizens activitiesinformation system.

            and theiractivities; related events, etc.

(7) Japanese Language Advancement Program For Foreign Residents (NEW)
                                                   (Budget: 133.000yen)

The seminars will be planned for the purpose of improving the skills of our regional Japanese language volunteers.  We also provide them with a place where information can be exchanged freely in order to solve common issues that they face while organizing Japanese language classrooms for foreign residents.  By creating a network among the local Japanese language volunteers, they will hopefully strength collaboration interaction and mutual cooperation.

2. Projects Promoting Internationalization

  (1) International Exchange Projects by Coordinators for International Relations

     (Budget: 20,000 yen)

In order to increase international exchange and understanding at the local level, Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) are sent to schools and other municipally-organized events throughout Hiroshima city.  A CIR also holds a Soudan-bi in the International Exchange Lounge where citizens can come to ask questions and get advice on foreign cultures.

Expected Number of Dispatches: 72 times

  (2) Publication of Informational Magazine (Budget: 20,000 yen)

The monthly magazine, Hiro Club News contains information on culture and living in English for foreign residents. The magazine can also be accessed via our website.

Details: “Hiro Club News” (English Version), monthly, 100 copies, approx. 40 pages

          “Hiroshima Shimin to Shisei” (Hiroshima City’s official newsletter), in the 15th issue of the month), elected articles are translated into English. Monthly, 100 copies, 5 pages

  (3) Enhancing the Sending-Receiving Feature of Information over the Internet

     (Budget: 938.000 yen)

Apply as-needed updates to information on the International Exchange Network Hiroshima members and international exchange activities in general, allowing for an easier exchange of information via the internet.

Target number of unique views: 128,000 hits

  (4) Collaboration with International Exchange and Cooperation Organizations

              (Budget: 255,000 yen)

In order to encourage solidarity amongst international exchange and cooperation businesses in the Hiroshima-area, we are participating in general meetings /lectures hold by organizations promoting friendly bilateral relation and the Local International Exchange Association workshops, while also holding liaison conferences with related organizations such as Hiroshima International Center (HIC).

(5) Training and Dispatch of Volunteer Interpreters (Budget: 508,000 yen)

With an increase in the foreign population, comes the need to dispatch interpreters to places such as schools and ward offices.  In order to facilitate the dispatch of volunteer interpreters, we are having training targeted at volunteer interpreters and are also working on a budget for other necessary expenses.

   (6) Multilingual Information Service for Foreign Residents (Budget: 241,000 yen)

By providing foreign residents with multilingual information relative to their lives, we promote an easy-to-live-in community.

(7) Translation, Interpretation, and Consultation for Foreign Residents (Budget: 9,589,000 yen)

We have set up a multilingual consultation counter to assist foreign residents who are not confident in Japanese. Staff will also be sent to government agencies to help with interpretation; they will translate information related to everyday living, look into the needs of the consultation window, and offer information. This service is carried out by the Emergency Job Creation Project (with funding from the Hiroshima Prefecture Emergency Job Creation Fund).

             Available Languages: Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese & English

3. Others

  We conduct the administrative operations for the International Exchange Lounge located in International Conference Center Hiroshima.
