Every year, the United Nations designates September 21 as the International Day of Peace, a day of ceasefire and non-violence in the world, and calls for an end to hostilities for the day.
Mayors for Peace also held a commemorative event in Hiroshima in support of the International Day of Peace.
The commemorative event was attended by about 10 people, including representatives of Hiroshima City-based organizations for A-bomb survivors and high school students who are running a petition calling for all states to join the Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons at the earliest date.
The participants held up the banner of Mayors for Peace, "Join us on a path of peace towards a world free of nuclear weapons!"
They also rang the Peace Bell and prayed for the abolition of nuclear weapons and the realization of everlasting peace in the world.
We also called on all member cities of the Mayors for Peace to hold commemorative events, and the following member cities reported holding such events.
Many citizens, including children, participated in each city, and it was a day for citizens around the world to think about peace.
