                | Practical Job-search lectures for International Students |
                | Every Saturday, from September 18 to October 2, 2010, this Foundation held
a series of three sessions of the "Practical Job-search Lectures for
International Students". Participants were seven international students
(six from China and one from Vietnam) who are seriously hoping to work
in Japan, and instructors were the specialists in various fields. The number
of participants in this workshop has been narrowed down to a small number
this year, to ensure that the students can be provided with detailed instruction
meeting the individual needs, and can be supported in their job-search
activities. This year, company visits were newly added to last year's program. On
September 29 (Wed), the participants visited two companies in Hiroshima
City (a hotel where a former international student was working at, and
a major food company that was aiming to globalize in the years ahead).
At the hotel, the participants were able to hear from the recruitment
officer and the former international student who actually works at the
front reception desk, about the efforts made in the process leading up
to receiving the job offer from the hotel and struggles experienced since
being recruited. The participants also took a tour of the hotel, and experienced
the tough work of dealing with customers. At the food company, the participants
heard specifically about the future prospects of the company and the current
recruitment situation, as well as the human resources required. The meeting
was also attended by people from the overseas and human resources division.
By visiting these companies, the students were able to immediately put
into practice and learn for themselves the things that they had studied
so far, such as self-introductions, exchanging business cards and greetings.
This program was extremely popular with the students.

The Lectures that had been held in the seminar rooms at Hiroshima City International House were the following:
 |
                | 1st session: "Techniques to Communicate with Japanese People / Business
Etiquette" The free announcer Ms. Yoko Maruko was invited as lecturer, and taught,
among other topics, the participants about greetings, bowing, vocalization
and "how to make the good impression in three seconds".

2nd session: "Stance, Process, Self-analysis and Failure & Success
                Stories about Job-hunting"
Isen Hattori (former international student), an interpreter at Hiroshima
Labor Bureau Hello Work job placement office, sympathetically
 | International students undertaking etiquette training
 |
                | gave the students individual advice on the importance of self-analysis,
and on thinking about what kind of future they are aiming for (including
                returning to their home countries).
 3rd session: "Practical Interview Guidance"
Mr. Kenji Kajiyama, the division chief of Hiroshima University of Economics
Career Center, and Mr. Isao Toshizane, the division chief of Hiroshima
Shudo University Career Center, were invited as interviewers. The participants
were divided into two groups, and received guidance on individual interviews.

Most of the participants wore "recruit suits" (business suit)
each time, and underwent checks on the way they tie back their hair and
how they choose their shoes. They listened intently to what the lecturers
said, and received individual comments on a range of aspects, from the
loudness of their voices and the way they speak, to how to write their
resume. The international students were very pleased with the session,
since they could obtain the specific information that they required.

The international students who participated in the Practical Job-search
Lectures are now confidently conducting their job-search activities in
Hiroshima and other prefectures. We hope that even just one of the students
                can receive a job offer.
