27th Children's Peace Drawings Competition
On December 15, 2012, the awards ceremony for the Children's Peace Drawings Competition was held in the Memorial Hall in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. This competition was launched in 1986 with the aim of heightening children's awareness of the importance of peace, and 2012 marks the 27th time the competition has been held.
  A total of 3,835 works were sent in by 125 elementary and junior high schools in Hiroshima City, and 830 works were sent in by elementary and junior high schools from eight countries (U.S., Iran, India, Australia, Korea, Germany, France and Russia), for a total of 4,665 works. Thirty-four winners of Excellence and Distinction awards attended the ceremony and received a certificate and commemorative shield.
  After the end of the awards ceremony, an exhibition of the works was opened in the exhibition room in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum with a tape-cutting by the winners of the Award of Excellence. The exhibition was held until January 31, 2013, displaying the three Award of Excellence works, 39 Award of Distinction works and 70 Award of Merit works for a total of 120 works on display.
