Renewal of Peace Memorial Museum Collection Exhibition at former Bank of Japan, Hiroshima Branch
The displays of the Peace Memorial Museum Collection Exhibition at the former Bank of Japan, Hiroshima Branch, in Fukuro-machi, Naka Ward, were renewed on July 28, 2017. The new displays will be exhibited until July 2018. Entrance to the exhibition is free.
There are three exhibition rooms (OCR room, Vault 1 and Vault 2). In the OCR room, there are 38 A-bomb drawings by survivors on display, with the title "Along This Street Where You Are Now-Horrific Scenes along Rijo Dori-". These drawings depict the terrible scenes at the time of
the bombing along the streetcar road that the exhibition venue, the former Bank of Japan, Hiroshima Branch, is located (Rijo Dori: from Peace Boulevard to the Kamiya-cho intersection). This area currently has modern buildings, and these drawings show us the tragic scenes in this area immediately after the bombing. At the exhibition venue, the Rijo Dori Fieldwork Map (in Japanese and English) is available for visitors, so that they can imagine the tragic scenes at the time at the very place depicted in the drawings. Many visitors use this as material to learn about the bombing as they walk around the city.

In Vault 2, there is a new display of photographs being exhibited for the first time. Titled "Exhibition on the 2016 Overseas Research-A-bombing on Records: Hiroshima in Ruins-", the photos were collected by the Peace Memorial Museum's staff in the United States in November and December 2016. The 32 photographs on display include newly-discovered photos of the mushroom cloud taken from the Enola Gay, aerial photographs of the burning ruins of the Hiroshima City, and photographs taken privately by American soldiers visiting Hiroshima. These are important materials that tell us about the damage from the bombing in greater detail.

In Vault 1, there is a display of A-bombed artifacts carried over from the 2016 display, titled "Traces of the Heat and Flames". By viewing all three exhibition rooms, visitors can learn in a multi-faceted way about the truth of the damage from the bombing. Please drop in if you are nearby.
