Every year since 2003, on August 9, the day of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, this Foundation has held the Memorial Service for Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Victims to express condolences from Hiroshima to the victims of the bombing in Nagasaki and to renew the pledge for peace.
Approximately 60 people, including
hibakusha and citizens, attended the memorial service held at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.
Following the opening address by Takehiro Kagawa, Chairperson of this Foundation, the participants watched a television broadcast of the Nagasaki City Peace Memorial Ceremony, and at 11:02 a.m., the time the atomic bomb exploded over Nagasaki, everyone observed a moment of silent prayer.
This was followed by a speech by Toshiyuki Mimaki, the chairperson of the Hiroshima Prefectural Confederation of A-bomb Sufferers Organizations.
The event concluded with a picture-story show entitled "Hiroshima-Nagasaki: The Man who survived Both Atomic Bombs", about the life of Tsutomu Yamaguchi, a double atomic bomb survivor of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
