Sister & Friendship City Days

"Daegu Day" Held

Hiroshima City has established sister and friendship city partnerships with six cities overseas and engages in exchange activities with them. In 2001, the city designated a "sister & friendship city day" for each of these cities. Every year, around each designated date, exchange events involving citizen participation are held to further expand exchanges and promote friendship between the cities.
In May, the Daegu Day commemorative event was held.
The event was held at the Flower Festival venue from Saturday, May 3 (a national holiday) to Monday, May 5 (a national holiday). Blessed with fine weather, the three-day event welcomed approximately 3,700 visitors in total.
At the commemorative ceremony on May 3, speeches were delivered by the Chairperson of the Daegu Day Executive Committee and the Mayor of Hiroshima City. They were followed by a greeting from the Vice Mayor for Economic Affairs of Daegu Metropolitan City, who led a delegation from Daegu to Hiroshima.
After the ceremony, a choral performance was given by 12 members of the Daegu Municipal Boys and Girls Choir and 23 students from the choir clubs of Hiroshima City Yoshijima Higashi Elementary School and Nakajima Elementary School. The performance concluded with all the children singing "Hana wa Saku (Flowers Will Bloom)" together, captivating the audience.
A special booth called the "Korea / Daegu Madang (Square)", which was set up over the three days, offered experiences such as trying on hanbok (traditional Korean dress) and purchasing and enjoying Korean home-style dishes. The booth was bustling with many visitors, especially families and women, providing an opportunity to engage with Korean culture.
