On March 5, 2026, the museum shop was renovated and reopened as PEACE CREATION FACTORY on the first floor of the East Building of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.
Shop design unified by the warmth of wood
This renovation was undertaken to accommodate the growing number of visitors while expanding the sales area and the merchandise available.
The sales floor now spans about 80m
2, roughly double the previous shop.
The interior features warm wood tones, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere.
The shop is the final stop for visitors after touring the museum.
Here visitors can pick up peace-related items, deepen their thoughts about peace, and carry them into their daily lives.
Shop sign for PEACE CREATION FACTORY
The sign for the PEACE CREATION FACTORY has a silver finish created with tin foil supplied by Rekiseisha in Misasa-machi, Nishi Ward, Hiroshima.
The company's warehouse (the Hisanaga Kinshi Oshigami Factory), located 2.2km from the hypocenter, survived the atomic bombing.
The sign embodies the desire to cherish this connection to Hiroshima's history and memory.
The name is inspired by the words of Kenzo Tange, who designed the Peace Memorial Park and the Peace Memorial Museum.
Tange stated, "Peace is not granted by nature or by God; people must actively create it. … I see the facility we're building as a factory for creating peace."
We named the museum shop "PEACE CREATION FACTORY", hoping its products will help create a "fortress of peace" in the hearts of visitors—reminding them to think about peace in their daily lives.
We have developed 12 new original products for the renovated shop.
These include magnets featuring the Cenotaph for the A-Bomb Victims and the Peace Memorial Park; ballpoint pens and stickers featuring origami crane designs; a map of the Peace Memorial Park with landmark stickers, including the Cenotaph and the Atomic Bomb Dome; and transparent file folders featuring views of the Peace Memorial Park and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.
All the new products were designed by Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation staff.
Printed on the back of the folders is this message: "Let us create peace—not through force or threats, but by transcending our differences and cherishing the values we share as human beings."
Through these products, we aim to convey the importance of peace.
New original products
A visitor to the shop commented, "The space got brighter and more spacious. It feels really good in here."
Museum shop sales reached 272.6 million yen in fiscal 2025, significantly exceeding the fiscal 2024 total of 198.04 million yen.
These proceeds, representing our visitors' hopes for peace, will serve as an important source of funding and encouragement to strengthen the peace-related initiatives of our Foundation.
In addition to the exhibition at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, we will continue to share the message of peace through our products.
By expanding our original product line with our visitors in mind, we aim to create a shop where they can take home the spirit of Hiroshima—the wish for peace.
