Born in 1957. Graduated from WASEDA University, Faculty of Political Science and Economics.
Entered Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in 1981. Served as Director, Office of the vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs; Director, First Middle Eastern Division, Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau; Counsellor, Embassy of Japan in the USA; Counsellor, Embassy of Japan in the Saudi Arabia; Minister, Permanent Mission of Japan to the International Organization in Geneva; Minister, Embassy of Japan in the People's Republic of China; Deputy Director-General, Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau; Director-General for Global Issues; Ambassador of Japan to Egypt; Representative of the Government of Japan, Ambassador for International Economic Affairs; Chief Negotiator for the TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership); Retired November, 2022. Took office as the chairperson of the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation in February 1, 2023. |
